Have you ever felt like you didn’t quite fit in? We have all felt like that at one time or another, but what I’m talking about is at the very core of your being. Not just when things aren’t going well, but even at the happiest moments, something inside you says, “this isn’t exactly it.” While you can’t really put your finger on it, you just “know” something is missing.

You were created by God and born into this world. When you were born everything about you had already been placed inside of you. You are unique. There is no one exactly like you. You were created by God and for God. God IS love and He wanted to share that love. That is why He created Adam and placed him in the Garden of Eden. That love is also why God didn’t kill Adam and Eve when they sinned. He instead covered their guilt and shame. This love is also why He had them banned from the Garden after that (a whole other conversation).
We are born into a broken world to broken people. There is no getting around that. Those people closest to us have power to shape our lives and we theirs. They either bring out the best in us or that best gets covered up one layer at a time by hurt, disappointment, or fear. It’s still there, just hidden. We begin to live as they live. We act like they act. Children are little sponges. We learn what we live. Romans 12:2 says, “Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is- His good, pleasing, and perfect will.”
God has a plan for each of us. Jeremiah 29:11 says “For I know the plans I have for you” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Then you will call on me and pray to me, and I will listen to you…” Although, He is a gentleman and will not force His will or His plans on you. He will wait for you to ask. When you reach the place where you know something is missing or you just don’t quite “fit in” and you begin to actually question, He will answer.
Genesis 1:27 reads, “So God created mankind in His own image, in the image of God He created him: male and female He created them.” We aren’t made to fit in. We are to stand out. Realizing that you don’t fit in is a good thing. It’s only then that you can begin to be who God created you to be.
Father God, Thank you that you are love. Thank you that you created us in that love. Help us to look past the influences of this work to see just exactly who you created us to be. Teach us to walk that out and to live the pattern of your image and not of this world. Remind us Lord that we are chosen and are not to fit in, but to stand out so that others would be able to see you in us. Give us the strength and courage to be who we are called to be. In Jesus precious and holy name…..
