There is a song that has been on my playlist for over a year and I’ve never listened to it. So why add it you may ask? I heard a snip of it on TikTok and decided to save it to listen to later and then I skipped over it every time it came up on my playlist. I like upbeat music with a fast pace and I felt like this was just too slow.
Later turned out to be a few nights ago on my way to pick up my middle child from a soccer game. Cue the ugly crying in the car while I was driving. From the very first word, this song hit me like a gut punch. Every word hammers home the fact that God wants our whole heart and He pursues us relentlessly.
I’ve always seen this image where a person is walking along with God, then gets distracted and goes off the path on their own while God stops and waits. Eventually the person realizes that they have gotten away from God and turns around to find their way back to Him waiting right where they left Him.

Hearing this song I had such a different visual and it hit me how far what I thought was from the truth. When we turn away from God, He doesn’t stop and wait where we leave Him. He’s walking along with us. Right behind us. Ready to catch us if we stumble and fall, which of course we will. The distance we FEEL isn’t real, it’s just our perception. Our feelings don’t necessarily reflect the truth of the situation. Our minds have a way of convincing us that the emotions we experience in any given situation is the truth and that is a big fat lie. Jeremiah 17:9 says “The heart is more deceitful than all else And is desperately sick; Who can understand it?” Emotions change like the wind blows but God remains the same no matter what. He’s still here. He’s still with us. He’s just waiting for us to turn around and see Him. Then we can find our way back to the right path with Him to guide us.
”But now, thus says the Lord, your Creator, O Jacob, And He who formed you, O Israel, “Do not fear, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by name; you are Mine! When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; And through the rivers, they will not overflow you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be scorched, Nor will the flame burn you. For I am the Lord your God, The Holy One of Israel, your Savior; I have given Egypt as your ransom, Cush and Seba in your place. Do not fear, for I am with you; I will bring your offspring from the east, And gather you from the west.“
Isaiah 43:1-3, 5 NASB1995
